How I handle my male fans — Judy Austin

Elegant and beautiful, Judy Austin is one of the rising actresses that is tipped to rule the big screen in future. In fact since she debuted in the nation’s movie industry few years ago, the Umuoji, Idemilli North Anambra State-born actress has not looked back in quest to stay on top of the game. 

In this engaging interview, she talks about what the future holds for her as a rising actress and why she delved into acting….

Why did you choose to pursue a career in acting?

Show business is one thing I have always wanted to be part of. And I have an undying passion for acting. That was why when I had the opportunity to make my dream come true, I grabbed it. In fact, I’m so happy to be part of this big industry.

Can you tell us how it all started?

I actually started as a model at the age of 16, from where I delved into acting. Though acting is taking much of my time now, once in a while I find time for it.

How long have you sojourned in the movie industry and what were the challenges you ‘ve faced?

The challenges weren’t much, except that of finding your voice in the industry. You know as a rising actress, I tried to create my own kind of style. I even went as far as making it a unique one. It’s actually a challenge. At first, one had the feeling that she wasn’t good enough, mostly when you are paired with big actors on set.

How about the sex for role syndrome: didn’t you experience it?

I haven’t experienced it.

Which movie would you say brought out the best in you?

I guess it would be one of my recent jobs entitled “Slaves and Free Born.” It’s not the kind of an everyday movie we watch. It’s completely different.

What motivates you?

Nothing but the love and passion I have for acting.

How do you manage your male fans?

I manage them by showing them the love of God.

What can’t you let go in your everyday life?

I will say prayer, because it’s my major strength. And music; I really don’t joke with it.

You have regrets?

None at all; I’m still young to have regrets.

If you have an opportunity to change something, what would it be?

I would change the fact that the government is not assisting the industry as it should. Nollywood is one independent industry that has been moving from strength to strength. I think it is time the government should come in with strong policies to support its already established effort.

What attracts you to the opposite sex?

First, the fear of God, and a caring man with a hard working spirit.

What are your career plans for the next two years?

I plan to be one of the best acts that would be coming out of Africa. I’m hoping to hit the international scene in future.

Do you have words of advice for the up and coming actresses?

They should believe in themselves and remain focused. Let them believe that they can do better no matter the obstacles by putting in their best in whatever they do. Also, they should also draw inspiration from their older colleagues, and by God’s grace, the sky will be their limit.
