The internet campaign
to reunite wartime lovers after 70 long years has been a success. The two
finally met on Wednesday and are going to spend this Valentine's Day together.
Last month, the
Virginian Pilot ran an online campaign to reunite a World War II veteran
Norwood Thomas with his lover Joyce Durrant after 70 years. The support they
received was overwhelming, with donations crossing 75,000 dollars from over 300
people around the world.
Air New Zealand, which
promised to make arrangements to send Thomas and his son to Australia, stood by
their word and now the lovers have met, after 7 decades.
Thomas was struck by
cupids arrow the moment he laid eyes on Joyce while serving in London during
the second world war. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and they were
separated. Both moved on with their lives.
But yesterday, the 93-year-old Norwood Thomas finally got to
embrace his lover, 88-year-old Joyce Durrant.

Oh! this is lovely after 70 good years.
"It was a
wonderful feeling to see this woman that I hadn't seen for 70 years," said
Thomas.
And, of course, they
are going to spend this Valentine's Day together.
