Ese’s dad: my daughter is pregnant after rape

The Kano State-born Yunusa, alias Yellow, who took 14-year-old Ese Oruru from Bayelsa State, converted her to Islam and married her, has been transferred to the Bayelsa State Police Command in Yenagoa.

Yunusa was arrested in Kano and taken to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, following public outrage generated by the travails of Ese.

The police had earlier said they would transfer the suspect to the police in Bayelsa State where he allegedly committed the offence.

A source from the Bayelsa Police Command report that Yunusa was already in the state’s police custody.

He said Yunusa was handed over to the command on Wednesday, the same day Ese was brought back to the state.

“Yunusa is at present here with the Bayelsa police command. He was brought by a team of policemen from the Force Headquarters on Wednesday. He is being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the police,” he said.

Charles Oruru, Ese’s father said yesterday that the family is determined to ensure that the law takes its full cause.

He confirmed that his daughter is pregnant.

He said: “My daughter is pregnant. Everything you read about her is true. She was raped. This is a case of rape because she is a minor. We are going to pursue this matter and the law will take its full course.

“God knows why he allowed it to happen. But we believe that it will be better at last. I don’t want to talk further now. I will talk in due cause.”

He said his daughter is still at the Police Officers’ Mess.

Oruru said he visited his daughter in the morning in the company of two of his five children, 16-year-old Onome and 11-year-old Lucky.

He said there was no time Yunusa acted as his family’s domestic servant.

Police spokesman Butswat Asinim said the command would speak in due cause on the matter.
